Antique Georgian Cross Pendant: A Testament to Faith and Craftsmanship

This exquisite antique Georgian gold cross, circa 1780, reflects the delicate artistry of the era. Crafted in warm 14K yellow gold, the pendant features ten rose-cut diamonds and senailles, each set on foil to amplify their natural brilliance. The understated elegance of the diamonds is matched by the cross's symbolic Christian heritage, embodying faith and craftsmanship. The ‘E’ hallmark, though mysterious in its origin, adds an intriguing layer to its history, while the unrecognisable mark hints at a journey through time yet to be fully uncovered. A timeless piece that gracefully transcends its era.

Style
Georgian - Georgian style is the name given in most English-speaking countries to the set of styles current between 1720 and 1840. It is eponymous for the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover—George I of Great Britain, George II of Great Britain, George III of the United Kingdom, and George IV of the United Kingdom—who reigned in continuous succession from August 1714 to June 1830.

Theme
Cross - The cross is one of the most ancient human symbols, and is used by many religions, such as Christianity. It is frequently a representation of the division of the world into four elements (or cardinal points), or alternately as the union of the concepts of divinity, the vertical line, and the world, the horizontal line. Technique
The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a special technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality.

Diamonds
Ten rose cut diamonds and senailles . A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets. We do not have the weight of the rose cuts diamonds nor the senailles which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cut diamonds and senailles.

- All diamonds, regardless of their size or shape, in our vintage and antique jewellery are verified as 100% natural by the IJGC laboratory.

- We do not sell lab-grown (synthetic) diamonds.

Birthstones
Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for April.

Hallmarks
The capital letter 'E' stamp appears twice on this jewel: once on the dangling part of the pendant and once, though only partially visible, on the section where the pendant is attached. However, these stamps alone offer too little information to determine the country or period it originates from, as 'E' stamps have been used across many eras and regions for various purposes, such as maker's marks, year letters, town marks, or fineness marks. Ordinarily, other stamps would guide the search for the jewel's provenance, but in this instance, the only other mark is unrecognizable. This unidentified stamp could have been pivotal in narrowing down the origin and date of the piece, but as it stands, the jewel’s precise background remains elusive without further hallmarking details.
