A type of microscopic internal incipient crack or fissure in a crystal that has been filled with gas, liquid or some subsequently introduced substance and that has a feathery appearance. Such flaws are found in some rubies and sapphires, varying in form depending on the origins of the stones, and in some genuine and synthetic emeralds.
