Legionnaire ring

A type of finger ring from the Roman era, made of bronze, on the flat bezel of which is engraved a Roman numeral. Some of the numbers are so high as to exceed the number of the Roman legions, so the present view is that they have no relationship to the legions, but are identification rings of soldiers.
