Piqué point (French). The type of piqué work that was done with inlaid minute points of gold or silver. It was sometimes combined with piqué posé, but the finest work is that done exclusively in 'petits et gros points' with gold nails of various sizes, and dated to the late period of the reign of Louis XIV, c. 1700-15. Although the work is usually on dark tortoise shell, it was sometimes done in gold on blond tortoise shell, especially during the end of the reign of Louis XIV and the Régence, 1715-23.
