A small pendant worn on the earl attached, as an ear-ring, by a looped wire passed through a hole pierced in the lobe of the ear or as an ear-clip or ear-screw fastened or screwed to the lobe. Such pendants are usually in the form of an ornament in the round, made in a variety of forms, e.g. as a bird, charioteer, etc., examples of which are from many sources, from Greek jewelry of the 4th century BC to Hungarian jewelry of the 19th century.
