As to jewelry, small metal parts used as components in the making or repairing of various articles by jewellers, bought ready-made from refiners, e.g. bolt rings, gallery strip, settings for stones, the acus and catch-plate for a brooch, links for a cuff-link, etc. They are made by machine and mass-produced. When hand-made, they are sometimes called 'fittings'.
