A style of setting a gemstone in a finger ring by which the girdle of the stone is secured in the collet by a series of minute adjacent beads (grains) of metal that are raised by passing a knurling tool (millgrain tool) around the top edge of the collet and that are bent over the girdle of the stone. This style was developed in the 19th century.
