A style of setting a stone in a finger ring that is a variation of the rub-over setting, in that when the stone is set in the collet a groove is cut around the exterior of the collet and the resulting raised part of the rim is pressed (rubbed) over the stone to secure it. It is used to secure a seal in a signet ring, and is a modern version of a setting so used by the Romans in the form of a gypsy setting encircled by a ridge.
