St Christopher

St Christopher: The legend goes he was a man of gigantic stature who wished to serve the mightiest of masters. After a king and Satan both disappointed him, he sought Jesus, living alone where a lot of travelers passed. One night he was carrying a child across the river when the child became so heavy that Christopher could hardly get across. "No wonder!" said the child. "You have been carrying the whole world. I am Jesus Christ, the king you seek". In due course Christopher was put to death for his faith. Our tragic hero's name is no coincidence: in Greek Christophoros means 'Christ-bearer'. St. Christopher medals still have a wide appeal to present-day travelers, not least motorists, of whom he is patron. It is said that if you look at St. Christopher each day you will not die without being administered the last sacraments.
